One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing as usual, he saw a merchant's ship which was being raided by a small band of pirates. With his brave and power, Malin Kundang defeated the pirates. The merchant was so happy and asked Malin Kundang to sail with him. Malin Kundang agreed.
Many years later, Malin Kundang became a wealthty merchant, with a huge ship, loads of trading goods, many ship crews, and a beautiful wife. In his journey, his ship landed on a beach. The villagers reconigzed him, and the news ran fast in the town: Malin Kundang became a rich man and now he is here. His mother, in deepful sadnees after years of loneliness, ran to the beach to meet her beloved son again.
When the mother came, Malin Kundang, in front of his well dressed wife, his crews and his own gloriness, denied to meet that old, poor and dirty woman. For three times she begged Malin Kundang and for three times yelled at him. At last Malin Kundang said to her "Enough, old woman! I have never had a mother like you, a dirty and ugly peasant!" Then he ordered his crews to set sail.
Enraged, she cursed Malin Kundang that he would turn into a stone if he didn't apologize. Malin Kundang just laughed and set sail. In the quiet sea, suddenly a thunderstorm came. His huge ship was wrecked and it was too late for Malin Kundang to apologized. He was thrown by the wave out of his ship, fell on a small island, and suddenly turned into stone.
The legendary story is said to be originated here in Padang where the remains of "Batu Malin Kundang" is located.

Setelah hampir dua tahun bersemedi, daun-daun itu sudah menutupi seluruh tubuhnya. Seperti yang dijanjikan, ia akhirnya menerima kekuatan gaib. Ia berniat untuk kembali ke asalnya, daerah Sumidang. Dalam perjalanan pulang tersebut ia menguji kesaktiannya. Ditepian Danau Ranau, dijumpainya terhampar pohon-pohon tebu yang sudah menguning. Si Pahit Lidah pun berkata, "jadilah batu." Maka benarlah, tanaman itu berubah menjadi batu. Seterusnya, ia pun mengutuk setiap orang yang dijumpainya di tepian Sungai Jambi untuk menjadi batu. Namun, ia pun punya maksud baik. Dikhabarkan, ia mengubah Bukit Serut yang gundul menjadi hutan kayu. Di Karang Agung, dikisahkan ia memenuhi keinginan pasangan tua yang sudah ompong untuk mempunyai anak bayi.
Cinderella adalah seorang gadis yang cantik jelita. Namun, dia kehilangan orang yang sangat dicintainya yaitu ibunya. Ketika ayahnya menikah dan pergi meninggalkannya, hidupnya semakin menderita. Dia selalu diperlakukan seperti pembantu oleh ibu dan saudara tirinya.

Awan Peringkat Rendah (Low Clouds): 1.Terletak kurang daripada 3 000 meter dari muka bumi. 2.Terdiri daripada awan Stratokumulus, awan Nimbostratus dan awan Stratus. Awan Stratokumulus
Stratokumulus(Sc) ialah awan berwarna kelabu/putih yang terjadi apabila bahagian puncak awan kumulus yang terbentuk pada waktu petang menghampar dibawah songsangan suhu. Awan-awan ini terjadi pada lewat petang dan senja apabila atmosfera mula menjadi stabil. Warna kekuningan muda adalah disebabkan pantulan sinaran suria pada waktu senja. Stratokumulus juga akan boleh terjadi tanpa penghamparan awan kumulus.
Awan Nimbostratus
Awan Nimbostratus gelap dan mempunyai lapisan-lapisan jelas dan dikenali juga sebagai awan hujan
Awan stratus
Awan stratus ialah awan berupa cebisan kain koyak terbentuk dalam udara lembab bergelora pada paras rendah atmosfera selepas hujan. Warna kekuningan muda latar belakang adalah disebabkan oleh pantulan sinaran suria waktu senja oleh sirrostratus yang terjadi selepas aktiviti ribut petir pada waktu petang. Awan Stratus sangat rendah, tebal dan berwarna kelabu. Awan ini kelihatan seperti lelangit rendah atau kabus di tanah.
Awan sederhana tinggi 1. Terdiri daripada awan Altokumulus dan Altostratus 2. Letaknya antara 3 000 hingga 6 000 meter dari muka bumi
Awan Altokumulus(Ac)
Altokumulus (Ac) dilihat tegak diatas kepala. Tiap-tiap elemen nampak jelas tersisih antara satu sama lain dengan warna keputihan dan kelabu yang mana membedakannya daripada Sirokumulus. Awan Altokumulus berkepul-kepul, tidak rata dan berlapis. Selalunya awan itu menbayangkan keadaan cuaca yang baik.
Awan Altostratus(As)
Altostratus(As), awan kekelabuan (bergantung kepada ketebalan) peringkat pertengahan yang menghasilkan hujan apabila cukup tebal. Awan-awan ini terjadi dalam lapisan atmosfera stabil dan boleh menjadi tebal apabila cukup kelembapan dan penyejukan. Hujan berterusan pada waktu senja dan malam selepas aktiviti ribut petir pada lewat petang dan senja adalah disebabkan perkara ini. Awan-awan di atas terbentuk pada waktu senja dan malam hari terdahulu, mula menghilang apabila matahari terbit pada awal pagi. Awan-awan berlapis ini masih boleh dilihat pada bahagian bawah gambar. Awan Altostratus lebih padat, berwarna kelabu dan kelihatan seperti air. Awan ini berjurai-jurai.
Awan tinggi 1. Terdiri daripada awan Sirus, Sirokumulus dan Sirostratus 2. Letaknya antara 3 000 hingga 6 000 meter dari muka bumi
Awan Sirus(Ci)
Sirus(Ci), awan berupa filamen/cangkuk ditiupkan dari kanan ke kiri dalam angin timuran yang begelora. Awan-awan ini terdiri daripada hablor ais yang terjadi disebabkan suhu terlalu dingin pada paras tinggi atmosfera. Awan Sirus kelihatan seperti kapas nipis dan awan ini menunjukkan cuaca agak cerah.
Awan Sirokumulus
Awan Sirokumulus kelihatan seperti sisik ikan.
Awan Sirostratus
Awan Sirostratus pula ialah awan putih yang nipis seperti tirai Awan yang tinggi ke atas 1. Terdiri daripada awan Kumulus dan awan Kumulonimbus 2. Letaknya kira-kira 6 000 hingga 9 000 meter dari muka bumi.
Awan Kumulonimbus (Cb)
Ini adalah satu pandangan jarak jauh deretan awan Kumulonimbus (Cb) di Selat Melaka. Awan-awan ini tinggi berwarna putih / gelap. Tapaknya terletak pada ketinggian kira-kira 1000 kaki manakala puncaknya boleh mencapai ketinggian melebihi 35000 kaki. Pembentukan deretan awan ini merupakan satu ciri biasa pada awal pagi Monsun Barat Daya. Kedudukan Sel-sel Cb yang begitu rapat menyebabkan awan-awan itu kelihatan bersambung. Warna kuning keemasan itu disebabkan pantulan sinar suria pagi yang sedang terbit di timur. Awan nipis berbentuk topi kelihatan diatas puncak awan Cb menunjukan kewujudan udara stabil mengalir diatas puncak awan itu (Cb). Awan-awan Cb ini kerap bergerak masuk ke pedalaman melalui kawasan pantai pada peringkat akhir Monsun Barat Daya. Apabila ketidakstabilan atmosfera mencapai lebih tinggi, awan-awan ini membawa hujan lebat dan ribut petir kepada kawasan terlibat. Awan Kumulonimbus berbentuk kelompok-kelompok besar. Kelompok-kelompok yang berwarna putih dan hitam ini mempunyai bentuk dan rupa yang beranekaragam. Awan membawa hujan yang disertsi dengan kilat dan petir.
Awan Kumulus Kongestus
Ini adalah satu pandangan jarak dekat awan (Kumulus Kongestus) yang sedang berkembang aktif pada lewat pagi dan awal petang disebabkan pemanasan permukaan tanah dan perolakan. Awan-awan itu kelihatan seperti ‘popcorns’ dengan tepian nyata(clear outline). Warnanya putih pada puncak kerana semua gelombang sinar suria dipantulkan pada kadar yang sama. Warna gelap itu disebabkan oleh penembusan terhad sinar suria dan juga kadar serapan yang bertambah terhadap gelombang selebihnya kerana titisan air besar. Dengan kandungan kelembapan dan penaikan udara mencukupi, awan-awan ini tumbuh tinggi dan menghasilkan hujan panas. Dalam keadaan ketidakstabilan udara yang mendalam, ribut petir berlaku pada waktu petang atau lewat petang. Awan Kumulus terbentuk kelompok-kelompok bulat Awan Kumulus Terdiri Dari :
Awan Kumulus Humilis
Kumulus humilis ialah sejenis awan berwarna putih dengan ketinggian terhad. Songsangan suhu pada paras atas atmosfera menghalang pertumbuhan terus awan lalu berlaku penghamparan yang menyebabkannya kelihatan memanjang. Rupa serabut puncak awan dan langit biru menunjukan kewujudan udara kering diatas awan.
Awan Fracto kumulus dan Kumulus cuaca cerah
Frakto kumulus ialah awan putih berupa cebisan kain koyak. Ini boleh adilihat pada bahagian atas gambar. Kumulus cuaca cerah (Fair weather cumulus) yang juga kelihatan putih kecuali pada bahagian bawah dimana warnanya kegelapan sedikit, mencapai ketinggian terhad seperti dibahagian bawah foto. Kejadian kedua - dua jenis awan ini menunjukan kewujudan atmosfera kering.
